High Risk Hands: A 25-year
Review of Adverse Outcomes
in Hand AVMs
This study presents a 25-year single-center
retrospective analysis of 150 patients with
hand arteriovenous malformations (AVMs)
managed by a multidisciplinary approach.
Sclerotherapy, which was performed in
101 patients, showed varied success
rates, with 80% of cases demonstrating
50% devascularization, but carried a 39%
adverse event rate. 28 patients would go
on to require surgical amputation, despite
intervention, due to complications of pain,
bleeding, and necrosis. These findings
