What can be expected at

VEINS this year?

I had the opportunity to interview Maureen Kohi, MD, FSIR
FCIRSE FAHA to get a glimpse of this years’ VEINS Annual
Meeting. Dr. Kohi is an interventional radiologist and Profes-
sor and Chair of the Department of Radiology at University
of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and she is the Chair for VIVA
VEINS Meeting. In this interview, Dr. Kohi describes her ex-
perience in being involved with VIVA as part of the Board of
Directors and highlights the importance of the multispecial-
ty collaboration in promoting education in vascular disease.
With the expansion on Venous Disease in the last decades,
she tells us the history of the creation of VEINS and how it
became a collaboration with VIVA meeting. She also explains
how VEINS has become a cutting-edge multidisciplinary edu-
cational venue for participants to discuss venous disease and
interventions, and a space to highlight innovations as well.
The VEINS meeting starts in the first portion of VIVA confe-
rence on Saturday and will end with live patient evaluation on Maureen Kohi, MD,
the Monday Afternoon. She provides us with several reasons FSIR FCIRSE FAHA
of why an interventionalist should attend this meeting, with
the latest and greatest data being presented in the form of late breaking abstracts and
discussions on various topics and controversies. “The main reason to attend VEINS is
the multidisciplinary format with several leaders in the field discussing the current hot
topics in veins,” she says. In closing, she provides an overview of this years’ conference
and the hot topics, including current and upcoming clinical trials in Pulmonary Embolism
and Pelvic Venous Disease that will be highlighted at VIVA & VEINS Annual 2023 Con-
ference at Wynn Las Vegas
